We’ve decided to group together the destinations located around the town of Monteria, i.e. the places to visit in the Cordoba department and around the Gulf of Uraba.
This is a relatively little-visited region, apart from Capurgana, which has become a popular destination for those seeking beautiful beaches, a little isolation and a connection to nature on the Caribbean coast.

Cordoba and Uraba Travel Guide
The region around the Gulf of Uraba has long suffered from armed conflict. Today, it is still a territory where local mafias reign, but it is perfectly possible to discover the region’s tourist sites without any problems.
The region’s main town is Monteria, and the rest of the area is rural and focused on cattle farming. Tourism is almost entirely focused on the Caribbean coast.

Monteria is not necessarily a very touristy town, but it’s well worth a stroll, especially on the beautiful banks of the Rio Sinu. Around Monteria, the town of Lorica is part of Colombia’s network of heritage towns and villages. The tiny village of Tuchin is famous for its production of the sombrero vueltiao, Colombia’s national symbol.
On the Cordoba coast, the beaches of San Bernardo del viento are well worth a visit, much less touristy than Coveñas. Offshore, Isla Fuerte has nothing to envy the San Bernardo archipelago.
On the Gulf of Uraba, it’s impossible to miss Capurgana and Sapzurro, but first we recommend a stopover in Necocli, with its authentic atmosphere and numerous community tourism projects.

It’s conveniently located next to the main square and not far from the tourist malecon, the promenade that runs alongside the river. The hotel offers a nice view from some rooms and especially from the rooftop terrace!

We didn’t stay at Dive and Green, but we did try scuba diving with them, and it was great! The reviews of the accommodation suggest that this is also a good option for accommodation in Capurgana.
