It was by chance that we discovered this hotel in Jerico: El Despertar. And what a coincidence it was! The story of El Despertar begins with Cristobal, who is absolutely in love with his adopted village (he’s Spanish).

Cristobal is an ideal ambassador for Jerico, so much so that a simple chat with him and his enthusiasm convinced us to make a small detour in our travel itinerary to visit Jerico, one of Colombia’s most beautiful villages!

The Travel insurance we recommend in Colombia

We live in Colombia, and we can confirm that private healthcare is very expensive here. Private clinics in Colombia generally only admit patients who have insurance.

Hotel El Despertar where to stay in Jerico

El Despertar Hotel is located right in the center of Jerico, just a few blocks from the village’s main square. Located in the middle of the street, with a colorful, elaborate facade and a magnificent wooden front door, it’s when you enter that you realize the scale of the place!

Cristobal and his wife’s passion for fine craftsmanship is reflected in the result of several years’ renovation work. The colonial-style house is built around a sublime patio and boasts a terrace with a splendid view of the surrounding landscape and mountains.

What are the rooms like at Hotel El Despertar?

Hotel El Despertar in Jerico

Hotel El Despertar offers rooms with a common decor theme, but each with its own unique identity. From the colors to the furnishings and decorations, each room has been designed to offer a beautiful experience.

All the rooms are beautiful, with the addition of a large Queensize bed and the installation of beautiful Wayuu chinchorros (large, very comfortable hammocks).

It has to be said that the rooms closer to the terrace have a splendid luminosity and a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.

Our nicely-sized room had a large double bed, a single bed and a hammock, as well as a very pleasant shower room. Cristobal, who is passionate about decoration, has chosen noble materials for his rooms, and will be happy to explain his choices to you!

We loved our room, the light, the calm and the comfort of the mattress. The hotel’s terrace and jacuzzi with a view (which we didn’t get a chance to try out) are a nice little extra.

What’s the best value for money

Hotel El Despertar in Jerico

The price of the rooms for such services seems to us very good. In our opinion, this is the ideal place to stay if you’re looking to enjoy the village in an idyllic setting.

It’s a great opportunity not only to treat yourself to a beautiful room, but also (if not more importantly) to meet Cristobal, a passionate man who will help you spend a fabulous time in the region!
